OnePlus 12R Storage Controversy: Full Refunds Offered for Unhappy Buyers

OnePlus Acknowledges Mistake and Pledges Full Refunds for Displeased 256GB Variant Purchasers

In a surprising turn of events, OnePlus is offering a complete refund to dissatisfied buyers of the OnePlus 12R, specifically those who opted for the 256GB variant and are discontented with the UFS 3.1 storage. The company’s admission of the error comes after a wave of controversy surrounding the initially claimed UFS 4.0-based storage.

The Storage-Type Fiasco Unveiled

Initially, OnePlus confidently asserted that the 256GB variant of the OnePlus 12R was equipped with state-of-the-art UFS 4.0-based storage. However, independent reports contradicted these claims, prompting the company to release an official statement. This statement clarified that the phone, in fact, utilizes UFS 3.1 flash storage, not the promised UFS 4.0.

OnePlus Steps Up with Full Refund Offer

In response to the uproar caused by the storage debacle, OnePlus issued a community post stating, “OnePlus 12R buyers can get a full refund if they are not satisfied with the device.” Kinder Liu, the President and COO of OnePlus, emphasized, “If you’ve received the phone and want to discuss the situation with the file system type, please contact Customer Service through your usual channel.” The company is committed to addressing concerns, including the option of a full refund, until March 16, 2024.

Clarification on Storage Enhancement

Liu admitted the mistake, explaining, “Due to an error, the phone storage enhanced by Trinity Engine would be UFS 4.0 in some variants. I can now confirm that the storage in all variants of the OnePlus 12R is still enhanced by Trinity Engine but is actually UFS 3.1.”

Current OnePlus 12R Storage Options

OnePlus currently offers the 12R in two storage configurations. The base model features 8 GB RAM and 128 GB storage, while the high-end variant boasts 16 GB RAM and 256 GB internal storage. Both variants utilize UFS 3.1-type storage. Despite the storage controversy, the prices remain at Rs 39,999 and Rs 45,999, respectively.

Timeframe for Refunds

For consumers who recently purchased the OnePlus 12R, believing it had UFS 4.0 storage, there is a grace period of approximately one month to return the device through an official channel and receive a full refund of Rs 45,999. It’s important to note that any additional offers availed during the purchase may impact the refund amount.

In conclusion, OnePlus is proactively addressing the concerns of unsatisfied buyers by offering full refunds within a specified timeframe. This move reflects the company’s commitment to customer satisfaction and transparency amidst the storage controversy.
