In a tragic incident at Kalajharia railway station in Jharkhand’s Jamtara, two lives were lost as a train ran over individuals attempting to flee an alleged “fire” on the Anga Express. The Eastern Railways promptly formed a committee to investigate the occurrence.

Panic Unleashed: Passengers’ Escape Turns Fatal

Passengers aboard the Anga Express, en route from Bhagalpur to Bengaluru, disembarked amidst rumors of a fire, triggering panic. Tragically, as they attempted to cross the tracks to escape the perceived danger, another train on the same route fatally collided with them.

Contrary to initial reports, the Eastern Railway clarified that the victims were not passengers but pedestrians on the tracks, ruling out any fire-related incidents.

Clarification from Eastern Railways

According to Kaushik Mitra, an official from Eastern Railways, the tragic event unfolded two kilometers away from Vidyasagar Kasitar. He stated unequivocally, “There is no incident of fire. As of now, two deaths have been confirmed. The deceased were not passengers; they were walking on the track.” A three-member committee has been constituted to probe further into the matter.

Ongoing Rescue Operations

Rescue operations are in full swing, with medical teams, four ambulances, and three buses rushing to the spot. The Deputy Commissioner of Jamtara affirmed the efforts to transport the injured promptly to Jamtara for medical attention.

Condolences Pour In

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his grief, stating, “Pained by the mishap in Jamtara, Jharkhand. My thoughts are with all those who have lost their loved ones. May the injured recover soon.”

Chief Minister Champai Soren extended condolences, expressing deep sorrow over the accident near Kaljharia station. He conveyed prayers for peace to the departed souls and strength to the bereaved families. The administration is actively engaged in relief and rescue work.

Government’s Swift Response

Jharkhand Health Minister Banna Gupta’s office released a statement confirming the tragic incident. Gupta instructed the Jamtara Deputy Commissioner to continue relief and rescue efforts and ensure proper treatment for the injured in hospitals.

Presidential Condolences

President Droupadi Murmu offered heartfelt condolences, stating, “The news of the sudden death of many people in a train accident in Jamtara district of Jharkhand is extremely saddening. I express my deepest condolences to the bereaved families and pray for the speedy recovery of those injured.”
