Actress Ranjana Nachiyar : Stopping MTC bus and Beating Students For Footboarding

In the urban expanse of Chennai, the municipal law enforcement apprehended S Ranjana Nachiyar, an thespian, on the day of Saturn for obstructing the transit of an MTC bus and administering physical admonishment to pupils traversing the footboard. A visual recording capturing her physical chastisement of the adolescents and rebuking of the bus crew disseminated widely across digital platforms.

As the crepuscular hues dominated Thursday, MTC bus route number 188, voyaging between Saidapet and Kundrathur, became densely populated with commuters, among them school attendees clad in uniform. Ranjana, ensconced within her vehicular conveyance, espied the juvenile voyagers perilously situated on the footboard and atop the vehicular carriage. In proximity to the Porur Signal, she surpassed the bus, coercing it into an abrupt cessation within the thoroughfare. The video footage depicted her vituperative diatribe against the chauffeur and a corresponding admonition of the conductor, as articulated by a representative of the constabulary.

The lady, in her vehemence, imparted physical retribution upon the students occupying the footboard, coupled with the censure cast upon them through the channel of derogatory parlance. R Saravanan, the operator of the bus aged 48, filed a formal grievance with the Mangadu police, contending that Ranjana impeded his fulfillment of professional obligations and subjected him to public opprobrium. Subsequent to his plaint, the law enforcement initiated legal proceedings against Ranjana, invoking sections 341 (penalty for undue constraint), 323 (penalty for voluntary infliction of injury), 353 (assault or criminal force to obstruct a public servant from performing duties), and 290 (penalty for public disturbance) of the Indian Penal Code, accompanied by a provision from the Juvenile Justice Act. A cadre of police personnel apprehended the dramatist at her residence in Gerugambakkam. Subsequently, she underwent adjudication at the tribunal in Sriperumbudur during the vesperal hours. The adjudicative decree mandated her daily appearance before the Mangadu police over the ensuing quadragennial period to affix her signature to the official record.
