Rishabh Pant’s surgeon, Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala, has expressed concerns over the wicketkeeper-batter’s somersault celebration, calling it ‘unnecessary’. Pant performed a stunning somersault after scoring a century against England in the first Test match, leaving fans and experts in awe.
A Glimpse into Pant’s Recovery
Dr. Pardiwala, who treated Pant after his near-fatal car accident in 2022, revealed that the cricketer’s gymnastics training and agility enable him to perform such feats. However, the surgeon believes that the somersault celebration may not be necessary, despite being a well-practiced and perfected move.
Pant’s Journey After the Car Accident
Pant’s road to recovery has been remarkable. After the car crash on December 30, 2022, he suffered severe injuries, including a dislocated right knee, ankle injury, and extensive skin loss. Dr. Pardiwala recalled that Pant’s entire skin from the nape of the neck to his knees was scraped off in the accident.
A Lucky Escape
Dr. Pardiwala described Pant as “extremely lucky to be alive” after the accident. When Pant was brought to the hospital, his first question to the doctor was, “Will I be able to play again?” Pant’s determination and resilience have been instrumental in his recovery, and he has made a successful comeback to cricket.
A Balance Between Celebration and Caution
While Pant’s somersault celebration has garnered attention, Dr. Pardiwala’s concerns highlight the need for caution. As a cricketer who has faced a life-threatening injury, Pant’s safety and well-being are paramount. Perhaps, a more measured approach to celebrations might be advisable, balancing excitement with prudence.
