SAD Seeks Ban on Kangana Ranaut’s ‘Emergency’

Demand for Criminal Case Against Kangana Ranaut

Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal has demanded the registration of a criminal case against actor and BJP parliamentarian Kangana Ranaut for hurting the religious sentiments of Sikhs through her unreleased film “Emergency”.

Accusations of Hurting Sikh Sentiments

Sukhbir Singh Badal accused Kangana Ranaut of deliberately working to rake up sentiments against patriotic Sikhs to destroy communal harmony. He stated that it was unfortunate that Ranaut was targeting the Sikh community, which has won freedom for India and has contributed to the country’s food security.

Echoing Similar Sentiments

Bathinda MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal also echoed similar sentiments, accusing Ranaut of depicting Sikhs in a poor light. She warned that if any attempt is made to defame the brave and patriotic Sikh community, it would be assumed that the central government is also involved in spreading false propaganda.

Controversy Surrounding the Film

The movie “Emergency” is directed by Kangana Ranaut, who also plays the role of former PM Indira Gandhi. The film’s trailer, released on August 14, shows an actor playing the role of slain militant leader Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale. The trailer has sparked controversy, with many accusing Ranaut of distorting the character of Bhindranwale.

Demand for Ban on the Film

Akal Takht jathedar Giani Raghbir Singh demanded a ban on the movie, stating that Sikhs cannot tolerate the imitation of their martyrs in films. SGPC president Harjinder Singh Dhami also criticized the portrayal of Sikhs, saying that the film has deliberately misrepresented the character of Sikhs as separatists, which is part of a deep conspiracy.

Extension of Punjab Vidhan Sabha Session

Sukhbir Singh Badal also demanded the extension of the forthcoming monsoon session of the Punjab Vidhan Sabha from three days to one month. He stated that the session should discuss burning issues of the state, including the debt burden, which has increased by ₹85,000 crore during the AAP tenure.

Conclusion

The controversy surrounding Kangana Ranaut’s “Emergency” has sparked a heated debate, with many accusing the actor of hurting Sikh sentiments. The demand for a ban on the film and the registration of a criminal case against Ranaut highlights the sensitivity of the issue. The matter is likely to be discussed in the Punjab Vidhan Sabha session, which may be extended to address the concerns of the Sikh community.
