In a groundbreaking development, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma unveiled Tata Group’s strategic move to establish a cutting-edge semiconductor processing plant in Assam, with an astounding investment of approximately ₹40,000 crore. The CM shared this exciting news during a recent event in Guwahati, highlighting the significant economic impetus this venture promises for the region.
Initial Talks and Centre’s Approval Awaited
Sarma disclosed that Tata Group had initiated preliminary discussions with the state government concerning the semiconductor assembly and packaging plant. Encouraged by the positive dialogue, the conglomerate has now approached the Central government for the final approval. Anticipation surrounds the imminent green light expected from the Centre.
Jagiroad’s Role in Tata’s Electronic Vision
Delving into specifics, Sarma announced, “There is very good news for us. Tata Electronics Ltd has submitted an application for establishing an electronic center at Jagiroad.” Situated in Morigaon district, approximately 55 km from Guwahati, Jagiroad is poised to play a pivotal role in Tata’s ambitious plans for electronic manufacturing.
Comprehensive Proposal to Government of India
The Chief Minister emphasized that Tata Electronics Ltd has officially submitted a proposal to the Government of India, outlining a colossal outlay of about Rs 40,000 crore. This move reflects Tata’s commitment to fostering technological advancements within the region.
Optimistic Outlook for Assam’s Industrial Landscape
Sarma expressed optimism about the potential impact of this investment on the state’s industrial landscape. “If all goes well, we will witness a major infusion of capital into the state, creating a conducive environment for industrialization,” he remarked. The Chief Minister assured that ongoing communication with the Centre indicates a positive trajectory, with final approval expected in the coming months.
Skill Development Initiative and Job Creation
Highlighting the conglomerate’s proactive approach, Sarma revealed that Tata Group has approached the state government with a proposal to train 1,000 individuals for prospective employment in the semiconductor unit.
