Prohibitory orders prohibiting large gatherings have been instated in Haldwani, Uttarakhand, following a clash that left over 50 policemen injured. The confrontation ensued when law enforcement attempted to dismantle a madrasa deemed illegal by the authorities. The mob in Vanbhulpura vehemently resisted the demolition, pelting stones at the police, resulting in multiple injuries. The injured officers are currently receiving medical attention at a local hospital.

    As the joint team of police, administration, and civic officials initiated the demolition process, a group of unruly individuals launched an attack. They targeted the officials, including the police, with stones as the JCB machine began its operation.

    In response to the aggression, the police retaliated with tear gas, further escalating the violence. The clash reached a point where vehicles parked near the police station were set ablaze by the agitated crowd.

    The District Magistrate communicated to Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami that prohibitory orders against large gatherings have been enforced to restore order. Furthermore, orders have been given to shoot rioters at sight to prevent further disturbances.

    Chief Minister Dhami, addressing the situation, stated that the demolition was executed following a court order. He attributed the violence to “anti-social elements” who clashed with the police during the operation. Additional police and Central Forces have been deployed, and curfew is in effect. Strict actions will be taken against those involved in rioting and arson.

  3. Municipal Commissioner’s Verdict

    Municipal Commissioner Pankaj Upadhyay asserted the illegality of the madrasa and namaz site. The Municipal Corporation had previously seized three acres of nearby land, sealing and subsequently demolishing the unauthorized structures. Efforts are underway to identify and apprehend the individuals responsible for throwing stones during the clash.
