WhatsApp Introduces New Features
Blocking Messages from Unknown Senders
WhatsApp is working on a new feature that allows users to block messages from unknown senders. This feature, spotted by WABetaInfo, is currently in development and will be available on WhatsApp beta for Android 2.24.17.24. The feature aims to protect users’ accounts and optimize device performance by preventing messages from unknown accounts.
How it Works
The feature will be enabled through a toggle switch in the Privacy > Advanced menu. Once enabled, WhatsApp will block messages from unknown accounts if they exceed a certain volume. However, it’s important to note that even with this feature enabled, some messages from unknown senders may still get through.
Comparison to Signal
In contrast, Signal restricts messages from unknown accounts by default, asking users to Accept, Block, or Report a conversation initiated by an unidentified user. WhatsApp’s approach is slightly different, allowing some messages to get through even with the feature enabled.
Like Reaction for Status Updates
WhatsApp is also introducing a new feature that allows users to react to status updates with a heart emoji. This feature is currently available to beta testers on Android and will likely roll out to users on iOS and Android with an upcoming version of the app.
How it Works
Users can react to status updates by tapping the heart icon at the bottom right corner of the screen, next to the reply bar. The feature functions similarly to Instagram, where users can see who liked their story. WhatsApp users will also be able to see who reacted to their status update via the list that shows contacts who have viewed their story.
Enhanced User Experience
These new features demonstrate WhatsApp’s commitment to enhancing user experience and safety. By allowing users to block messages from unknown senders, WhatsApp aims to reduce spam and protect users’ accounts. The like reaction feature for status updates adds a new way for users to engage with each other’s content.
Conclusion
WhatsApp’s new features are a step in the right direction towards enhancing user experience and safety. With the ability to block messages from unknown senders and react to status updates, users will have more control over their interactions on the app. As these features roll out to users, we can expect WhatsApp to continue innovating and improving its platform.
